Patron Stories: Clara
Clara is a really special client who receives our braille materials. In 1900, Margaret Coffey, a blind woman who taught blind children, wanted to provide materials to blind children so that they could learn about their faith just as their sighted friends did. Clara epitomizes the roots of our mission. Here is a little more from her parents: "Clara is six years old and blind from birth due to a condition called Peters anomaly. Since 2016 she has attended religion class at her parish in Texas and receives all the materials of the curriculum transcribed in braille by Xavier Society for the Blind. She also gets the sticker rewards that she really likes. Clara loves listening to music and dancing along to it. Thank you to Xavier Society for the Blind for making religious education possible for Clara so that she can attend classes with her sighted friends. We are looking forward to her being able to make her first communion next year with the rest of her class."
